Today we are sharing some snippets on the magical German star Han Ying.
Originally from China, Han’s first major breakthrough came in Doha in 2012 when she defeated the #1 seed Feng Tianwei in her first ever Tournament on the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour. All without a coach by her side!
Han has always done it her own way and even though by 2012 she had played for Tostedt in the Bundesliga for 10 years and was one the leading players, she wasn’t on the German National Team. She didn’t even have a German Nationality and basically made all her own arrangements to play the Doha event.
Ying is a joy to watch and has amazing variety in her game. She uses reverse rubber on the F/H (Neo Hurricane) and short pimples on the B/H (Spector), her blade is a Koji Matsushita.
Her ranking history is incredible, she has been in the top 50 since 2012, made the top 10 in 2014, reached her highest of #6 in 2017, and is currently ranked #21 in the world.
Han recently made the Semi Finals of the 2020 ITTF Women’s World Cup, defeating Sofia Polcanova and #4 seed Cheng I-Ching along the way. She finally succumbed to eventual winner and World #1 Cheng Meng in a 7-set thriller. (A must watch!!)
A real breath of fresh air, Ying is now a German National Team regular and along with teammates Shan Xiaona, Petrissa Solja, Nina Mittelham won the Gold at the 2019 European Team Championships in Minsk.
