Matthew Syed (3-time Commonwealth Games Champion, former English #1 and now esteemed best-selling author and journalist) recently wrote a very interesting article titled, ‘The secret of success in life and in sport – know yourself’
Underneath the article he wrote:
‘One error – and I have been guilty of this at times – is to suppose that there is a magic formula to success. Unfortunately, many players want to improve but don’t or won’t make the necessary changes that will make a big difference to better performance.
Many of you will have read about the differences between the ‘Fixed Mindset’ and the ‘Growth Mindset’ in athletes and the TTFit team are very much in the latter camp!!
So, what do players with a ‘Growth Mindset’ believe?
Achievements and performance come from sheer hard work and a constant willingness to learn new things.
Feedback is critical in order to help them improve, not simply when they are underperforming but also when playing well.
Failures and defeats are ways to learn and improve from, and they will collaborate with other people and coaches to help them.
Strengths and weaknesses should be reviewed after training and matches as they think of each experience as another opportunity to learn and work with a coach to improve their game.
Our research has shown that this approach leads to a better performance over time.
Training and Match Journaling is a key ‘Portal’ feature and one the TTFit team feel very strongly about. Journaling can help any competitor understand more about their game, learn from mistakes and take the appropriate action, usually with the help from a good coach.
Here are a few Training and Match Journaling benefits:
Increases self discipline and improves self confidence.
With self reflection, you will learn what needs to be better next time.
You and your coach (if you have one) will learn more about your game and your key opponent’s strengths and weaknesses.
You can celebrate and remember the big wins, best performances and positive experiences.
We don’t claim to have re-invented the wheel but the tools that TTFit Pro are providing you with will make you a better player in time and if you don’t believe us, then ask the legendary Matthew Syed!!!
