Over the last number of years we have seen many more players in the top ranks of the Pro Tour circuit play more and more backhands from the middle of the table, for example, Tomokazu Harimoto and Dimitrij Ovtcharov.

This semi-regular exercise is a simple yet effective exercise to improve your backhand from the middle. Often when you are pushed wide to your forehand in a match it can be very difficult to fully recover back to the middle to play a strong forehand, that is why it is not a bad idea in such situations to have a back-up plan of playing a strong backhand topspin from the middle instead, thus keep up the attacking momentum and maintaining table position.
